First Round - 1984

This is the schedule for the first round. Since most of us seem to have a copy, and no one had anything against it, we're doing George Orwell's 1984. The schedule here gives us four weeks to get through it.

Help Plan the Schedule

I'm posting this now so that we can get a good schedule worked out before we start reading. The schedule we decide on will be the basis for all future rounds. glam_jam and I were thinking that it would be good to work on 4 week cycles, but if we need to take more time, or if it's too much time, we can adjust it accordingly.

When do y'all think would be a good time to start? One thing I wanted to bring up for a possibility is to divide whichever book we're reading into sections, and every so often, post an entry to discuss each section. That way, if someone works more slowly than others, they can disregard the posts so no crucial plot elements are given away. Yea? Nay?

If anyone else has any ideas, feel free to add them here.

October/November Possibilites

These are some of the possible books for the first go-around. We plan on spending a month on each (four weeks). I guess this is an unofficial vote.

Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut
A Passage to India - E.M. Forster
1984 - George Orwell
Persuasion - Jane Austen

The Man in the Iron Mask - Alexandre Dumas
The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas

Welcome to the Book Club of Doom!

We're just getting started, so we need something to delve into. Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut was recently recommended to me, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to come by. I reckon that there's a good chance I'm the farthest from civilization anybody can possibly get, so it might be a good meter of availability if I can get my hands on any one particular book or not.

If anyone has any suggestions for a book, feel free to post them here. We'll probably start our first round close to the week of Halloween.
